Kunsthistorisches Museum

Opened in 1891 by Emperor Franz Joseph I of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, the Kunsthistorisches Museum has a rich collection of artwork from seven millennia: from Ancient Egypt to the late 18th century, including impressive collections of Renaissance and Baroque art. The main building on Ringstrasse houses the Picture Gallery, the Collection of Greek and Roman Antiquities, the Egyptian and Middle Eastern Collection, the Coin Collection, while other collections include the Collection of Historical Musical Instruments, the Collection of Arms and Armour and the Treasury.
